The Spacescapes are a part of a continuous series of paintings on paper that began in New York. They started as a necessary change of pace both physical and spiritual and their small scale allowed Foley to paint almost anywhere. The late 1970’s through the late 1980’s were some very lean years full of uncertain circumstances including lots of relocation and these small works dried quickly and allowed for easier movement and safe keeping.
