1990-1993
Though there are some oil paintings from the late 1970’s, in the late 1980’s Foley started painting in oil again in earnest. Painting 11 “Tree of Life” and painting 12 “Plain Living” (1991-1993) are from a series of paintings on wood that take their size from a series in the early 1970’s, 41-1/4” x 43-3/4”. Foley’s work at this time was following the core idea of abstract illusionism; questioning the relationship of time and space. These paintings mix the looseness of the Spacescapes and the formality of an oil painting. For the next several years, Foley would push this idea.
