When Foley moved west from
New York in 1970 he was a post pop abstract illusionist enamored with
Tibetan Tonka painting. The first three paintings “Untitled”
(1971) and Alchemy Rodriguez” (1972) and “Aqua Hidalgo”
(1971) were painted after his arrival in San Francisco and show the influence
of the Mexican mural paintings from the neighborhood.
